Even Bush’s high-ranking appointees are too Green for the American right
President Bush’s selection for the position of Treasury Secretary, Henry Paulson, has been a big-shot Wall Street banker and chairman of Goldman Sachs - so he should appeal to the conservative right, right?
Wrong. Apparently Bush’s guy too Green. In an interesting aside to the ongoing debate about Blue/Green politics, right-wing think tanks are decrying the choice:
“The country doesn’t need another Paul O’Neill, who will neglect his job in order to promote the Kyoto global warming treaty and other radical environmental causes.”
His crime? Being the chairman of Nature Conservancy, a non-profit group dedicated to protecting endangered lands. How “radical”.

A chilling (if somewhat humorous) glimpse into a sub-world where the persuit of money (which was originally conceived as a tool) is the “raison d’etre”.
The vulnerability of Homo (self called) “sapiens” on this planet seems to be entirely missed (and any other species forgotten).

Let’s follow the logic of this shall we.
Two premises:
An appointee is “too Green for the American right”;
That appointee is not “too Green” for George W Bush.
Only logical conclusion:
George W Bush is not of the American right.

Interesting Edge.
If he’s not of the American right, what is he of?
Obviously not of the left. Perhaps something to the right of the right?
A tiny little cartel of himself, his father, his closest colleagues and the royal bin Ladens?
Or is it that other tiny cartel, the one of 12 ft high shape shifting alien reptiles, otherwise known as the bilderberg group?

Thanks for the leads … Edge and James L
Giving it more substance increases the “chilling” factor somehow.

Maybe his real crime … he’s not an oil man and has broken ranks with the neo cons over peak oil.

“Peak America - Is our time up?” by Patrick Murphy
… very relevant to the path Aotearoa/NZ is following, and to discussions on several threads here!

LeftBehind …
Is this for real or a spoof ? Hard to tell at a glance.
Reminds me of the density.org.nz site last year.

This seems to simply be an attempt to placate the American left and centre, rather than Bush’s choice at all. He has already shown a certain willingness to select candidates on whether they will get through the nomination progress than rather than going with his voter base.

The element in America to which that book appeals is appallingly and frighteningly real. They are found in every state. Hard to say how many of them there are, but they are one of the reasons I left that benighted land.
