A sustainable read

The Greens have launched a new publication - a newsletter on sustainable business and economics called The Real Bottom Line. It was launched in Auckland last night, and should be a valuable resource. You can read the first issue here; henceforth it will be published roughly monthly.

One of the most interesting articles in the first issue features Dr Ron Colman, who visited New Zealand in May to talk about the Genuine Progress Index - an alternative to measuring progress and wealth simply in economic terms via GDP. The GPI links the economy with social and environmental factors to create a more accurate measure of a society’s “wealth”. You can read about Dr Colman’s work on the GPI here, and about the New Zealand group, AnewNZ, who brought him over here. The New Zealand Centre for Ecological Economics at Massey University is also working on a GPI for New Zealand.

This looks great, is informative and very well-written (no grammar nazi needed this week!)

Ten points to the team, and I’m looking forward to seeing how this develops (sustainably, of course :-D ) as the year goes by.

    cheers, katie
